About Us

Harvest Learning Center (HLC) for Mass Media is a school that serves students from kindergarten through grade 8.  HLC specializes in training young people in media literacy and mass communications by providing theory in mass media and communications, while offering a hands-on experience in radio and television broadcasting.  Your child will have the opportunity to be exposed to what goes on behind the microphone, as well as behind the camera.

We are also a faith-based school, providing the leading Christian educational curriculum in the nation.  Our mission is to provide an educational opportunity that will expose young minds to current and future mass communications and media technology.  Our long-term vision is to impact the world of mass communications by increasing the number of trained minorities that are prepared and equipped to serve as station operators and owners in this continuously growing industry.

Harvest Learning Center For Mass Media has undergone many transitions over the years.  Our school began in 1985 as a private Christian child care center serving ages 2 ½ to preschool.

As the years progressed, we continued to add to our program with elementary grades to middle school, further enhancing our Christian mission to provide "Solid Christian Training & Excellent Academics.

Today, from a simple idea given by our leader, Dr. Gary Kirkwood, we've continued our mission of solid faith-based training, and also share with our students the mass media and communications training that worked so successfully with our church's radio station, Harvest Radio, WKMB 1070AM.

Now we are offering our students hands-on training in radio and television.  They are experiencing the fundamentals of television and radio broadcasting, along with other gametes of media and mass communications.
